The Oregon Military Department administers, equips and trains the Oregon National Guard, which supports the governor during unrest or natural disaster and is a reserve force to the total forces of the United States. The department administers 39 Readiness Centers/Armories, seven Maintenance Centers, four training sites, two Army Aviation Support Facilities and two Air Bases. Each community with sufficient population to support guard activities has a National Guard unit assigned to it.
The National Guard is found in both the United States and Oregon Constitutions. Its tradition and history is grounded in its mission statement: “A ready force equipped and trained to respond to any contingency. When we are needed, we are there.”
