Present Duties

The Oregon Military Department’s purpose is to administer, house, equip and train the Oregon National Guard — a ready force to support the governor during unrest or natural disaster and as a reserve force to the United States Air Force and the United States Army. The department administers 38 armories, two army aviation support facilities, three air base complexes, two camps, and three training sites. Each community with a sufficient population to support guard activities has a guard unit assigned to it.

The National Guard is found in both the United States Constitution and the Oregon Constitution. Its tradition and history is grounded in its mission statement: “A ready force equipped and trained to respond to any contingency. When we are needed, we are there.”
