Present Duties
The mission of the Office of Degree Authorization is to assist Oregon students and their families in attaining a post-secondary education and to enhance the value, integrity, and diversity of college programs offered in Oregon.
The office works to ensure the quality of degrees and certificates offered by private degree-granting colleges in Oregon and out-of-state public and private degree-granting colleges; evaluate requests to start new post-secondary degree programs in Oregon or offer academic programs for college credit to Oregon citizens from outside the state; protect existing degree programs offered by private colleges from detrimental duplication by publicly-funded institutions and protect Oregonians from fraudulent use of substandard academic
credentials and from “degree mills” offering fraudulent degrees.
