Duties and Responsibilities: DPSST implements minimum standards established by the Board on Public Safety Standards and Training for recruitment and training of city, county, and state police, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, fire service personnel, emergency telecommunicators, and private security providers. The board has 24 members who oversee six discipline-specific policy committees, all meeting on a quarterly basis.


Based on the board’s standards, DPSST conducts public safety training throughout Oregon and at the Oregon Public Safety Academy in Salem, certifies qualified officers at various levels from basic through executive, certifies qualified instructors, and inspects and accredits training programs throughout the state.
