Present Duties
The Oregon Medical Board, created in 1889, administers the Medical Practice Act and establishes the rules and regulations pertaining to the practice of medicine in Oregon. The board determines requirements for Oregon licensure as a Medical Doctor (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), Physician Assistant (PA) and Acupuncturist (LAc); ensures that all applicants granted licensure meet all Oregon requirements; investigates complaints against licensees and takes disciplinary action when a violation of the Medical Practice Act occurs. The board monitors licensees who have come under disciplinary action to ensure compliance with their terms of probation and ensure that it is safe for them to practice medicine, and supports rehabilitation, education and research to further its legislative mandate to protect the citizens of Oregon.
