Present Duties
The Oregon Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development, with local education and workforce partners, manages state, federal and other funds (including lottery) supporting Oregon’s community colleges, workforce development programs, WorkSource Oregon one-stop career centers, Adult Basic Skills Programs, English as a Second Language programs and the Oregon Youth Conservation Corps.
Oregon has 17 independent community colleges and seven Local Workforce Investment Areas. The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 reformed
federal job training programs and created a new, comprehensive workforce investment system to help Americans access the tools they need to manage their careers through information and services and to help companies find skilled workers.
