1This position, originally called Labor Commissioner, was changed to Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Inspector of Factories and Workshops in 1918. In 1930, the name changed to Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor. The 1979 Legislature changed the name to Commissioner of Labor and Industries.
The 1995 Legislature made this position nonpartisan, and the 1998 election was the first for this position after the change.
